About Errand Boy for Jesus

One of the Godly men who encouraged me in the work of the ministry was the late Philip Powell. One thing he regularly encouraged his congregation in Brisbane, Australia with was that we are just Errand Boys for Jesus. This saying has stuck with me. Errand boys for Jesus

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary an Errand boy is ‘a person whose job is to run errands for important people.’ A term that is not used much today the similarities of an errand boy of yesteryear and a Christ follower are evident. Paul in 2 Corinthians chapter 5 uses the language of ambassadors to describe the Christians purpose in life. ‘Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.

An ambassador is a representative of the country or company from whom he is sent. As an Errand Boy I am likewise sent with a message from the King of King to tell the wonderful Gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ in our day and to our Generation.

To this end, Errand Boy for Jesus is a reminder of the important and high yet humble task of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. To be walking as ‘children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world’ [Phl 2:15]

Errand Boy for Jesus is not a Para-church organisation but submits to the Eldership of Capital Bible Church, Canberra Australia. The church where I attend and have the great privilege and responsibility of being part of the pastoral team.

In Christ alone,

PJ Stringfellow
